About B. Smith:
B. Smith is an African American who is at the forefront of a trans-cultural movement; she possesses a unique ability to merge cultures through a shared appreciation for style. The former fashion model turned television talk show host, author, and entertainer extraordinaire has broken down barriers to achieve success in her career. B. is the first African American woman to have a national lifestyle brand -- the first to have products sold nationwide at Bed, Bath and Beyond and the first to have a nationally distributed furniture line. She was the first African American model to be featured on the cover of Mademoiselle Magazine, the first to publish an entertaining/cooking tabletop book (she will publish her third book this year) and the first to have a nationally distributed television lifestyle show. Today her face can be seen on Betty Crocker and Pillsbury products and, in addition to a recent TV commercial for Mercedes-Benz, she currently serves as spokesperson for Colgate Palmolive Oxy products and McCormick's Lawry seasonings. Just last month, B. was recognized with a BET Honors award for entrepreneurship.
B. was the first African American woman on the board of directors of the Culinary Institute of America and also runs three successful restaurants located in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Sag Harbor, NY. Her Washington, D.C. restaurant in Union Station is the site of the Presidential Suite used when the President traveled by rail in the early 1900's and before Air Force One. B. recently hosted one of the official Inaugural gala events at her Union Station restaurant and was just last month invited to the White House for a private economic summit.
